Release r16 (animux-genesis64-deb_21.iso, 12 GB) is the largest update to Genesis64 so far.

New#

  • Blender 5.2.3 LTS from blender.org replaces Debian's Blender 3.4, with the MPFB 2 character add-on switched on.
  • Gaffer 1.7.5, the studio lighting and look-development tool, with Cortex, OSL, OpenUSD and Alembic command-line tools.
  • Renderers: LuxCoreRender 2.11, Mitsuba 3.9, appleseed 2.1 (command line) and pbrt-v4, next to Cycles, EEVEE and POV-Ray.
  • MakeHuman II 2.0.1, the new stand-alone character creator.
  • Video: Cinelerra-GG, Avidemux and the DJV review player. 2D: TupiTube and Stopmotion. Discs: K3b.
  • Animux VFX Python (animux-vfx-python) with OpenUSD, OpenImageIO, OpenEXR, OpenColorIO, MaterialX, Mitsuba and LuxCore together.
  • Sample scenes and Animux Self-Test (Animux Tools menu).
  • The Animux Guide (this website) is installed on every system, works offline and is readable by AI agents.

Under the hood#

  • Animux's own settings (branding, menus, boot roles) are now packages from a signed Animux repository, so they can be updated with apt in future, without reinstalling.
  • Every program from outside Debian is pinned to an exact version and checked against its published checksum when the ISO is built.
  • Fixed: Farmerjoe could not start on earlier ISOs (missing Perl module); LuxCore crashed with the software OpenCL drivers.

Tested#

The self-test passes 29 of 29 tests in VirtualBox (BIOS, VMSVGA). Installation to disk and the first start of the installed system were tested with UEFI.

Known limits#

  • Blender 5, appleseed, Mitsuba and LuxCore need a processor from about 2011 or later (SSE4.2, AVX).
  • The Animux repository is not online yet; updates for Animux packages come with the next release.
  • appleseed.studio, DVDStyler and Lucille are not included.
  • fail2ban may report an error at start-up.
